The Real Food Cafe Announced in the Top 10 Finalists in The National Fish and Chip Awards
The National Fish and Chip Awards has announced the top 10 finalists for the Field to Frier 2023 category. And guess what, the Real Food Cafe has made the list!
The Field to Frier category recognises fish and chip shops from around the UK, for their excellence in potato knowledge, care and chip preparation, and is being sponsored by leading potato supplier, Isle of Ely Produce.
Sarah Heward, the owner of The Real Food Cafe said: "We are delighted to be shortlisted for this important category at the National Fish & Chip Awards organised and hosted by the National Federation of Fish Fryers our industry’s official trade body.
The Field to Fryer Award is all about the tattie, a vital component part in one of nations favourite dishes.
We are only as good as our ingredients and it takes a whole supply chain from seed, farm, merchant to supplier to ensure we receive the tonnes of great tasting tatties we require, reliably all year round. Although this award is focused on the retail outlet selling the finished product, it is a team effort.
We are fortunate to work with dedicated and experienced professionals at every stage in this supply chain. By sharing their vision and passion, they have helped us develop our knowledge and understanding over the years to serve a more consistent and better quality of chip to our customers."
The category received a vast amount of entries and a judging panel of industry experts meticulously inspected all applications, in order to finalise the top 10.
The top 10 businesses shortlisted in this category are:
- Real Food Cafe, Tyndrum
- Newington Fish Bar, Ramsgate
- The Cod Mother, Newborough
- Town Street Fryer, Maple Bridge
- Westend Fish and Chips, Oswaldtwistle Blackburn
- Pier Point Fish & Chips, Torquay
- Seafare Guildford, Guildford
- The Fish Bank, Leeds
- Fish Kitchen 1854, Maesycwmmer
- Fiddlers Elbow Fish & Chips, Leintwardine
Andrew Crook, President at the NFFF, said “This Field to Frier category is a really important part of the National Fish and Chip Awards, and a good opportunity to celebrate businesses going above and beyond. There’s so much more to good fish and chips than the end-product on the plate (or paper!) and it’s great to see so many fish and chip shop owners recognising and implementing this. Well done to everyone who has been shortlisted!”
The next step is for judges to evaluate all of the shortlisted businesses and select the Top 5 to take through to the next stage.
The Real Food Cafe has received a number of awards of excellence during its 18 years in business. Including the title of National Federation of Fish Fryers Quality Award Champion when the National Fish & Chip Awards were last held in January 2020.
