The Real Food Cafe Welcomes West Highland Way Race Runners

The Real Food Cafe is conveniently located just off the West Highland Way which means we get to meet & feed many outdoor lovers and participants of various fantastic races including the EPIC endurance West Highland Way Race.

The 2023 season of the West Highland Way Race was held on 17th June with runners setting off at 1am from Milngavie. The racers have 35 hours to complete 95miles which includes 14,000ft of assent and reach the end point of the race in Fort William. The race is directed and managed by the fabulous super duo, Ian and Sandra Beattie, who do a fabulous job.

Even though, our Tyndrum Cafe is not directly on the route for the runners, we welcome all support crews & their vehicles with open doors. After the race, we hope to aid all finishers with recovery & fuelling up needs by putting on a 'Buy one, Get the second on us' deal. Fish & Chips is simply the BEST recovery food (especially the salt)!

The 2023 race had 221 starters with competitors from as far away as New Zealand and Brazil and 171 crossed the finishing line. The winner of the race, Fitzroy Harriers, completed the race in an impressive 16 hours 35mins 31s. The first woman to finish the race was Alison McGill, who finished the race in 19 hours 2mins and 41s and took the overall 7th place.
