We’re making award-winning fish and chips accessible to everyone
Over the past few years we’ve been really focused on making alterations to our premises and services to ensure we’re providing the most inclusive and welcoming stop-off point for everyone. This year we’ve reach a new milestone with our first ever listing in Euan’s Guide, the travel guide for people with access requirements and we also submitted a blog post to the website, outlining our ambition to make award-winning fish and chips accessible to everyone.

The Real Food Café launches menu of Scotland’s most infamous dishes
We have launched a very special new Taste of Scotland menu celebrating Scotland’s most infamous food and drink items!
Officially launching on 25th January to celebrate Burns Night, the menu features haddock and chips with homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas, alongside bite-sized Macsween’s Haggis and Charles Macleod of Stornoway black pudding.

New year, new uniform and menu
The Real Food Café is kicking off 2019 with a brand new uniform and menu design. Our colourful new orange menus and staff polo shirts will brighten up even the gloomiest January day while our stag aprons give a nod to the incredible Scottish wildlife on our doorstep. We are also delighted to feature our craft Scottish beer supplier Innis & Gunn on the new uniforms, alongside National Federation of Fish Friers, Marine Stewardship Council, Coeliac UK, and VisitScotland Taste Our Best.

Real Food Café wins silver in The Great Outdoors Awards
The results are in and Real Food Café has been voted one of the best cafés in Britain for walkers in The Great Outdoors Awards 2018! We are over the moon to be acknowledged in this prestigious list with a Silver award in the Café or Restaurant category. A huge thank you to readers of The Great Outdoors magazine and the public who voted for us.

Double Gold at FreeFrom Eating Out Awards
We’re really pleased to have received not one, but two Gold awards at the FreeFrom Eating Out Awards which celebrate excellence in the free-from food service industry. We were named Gold winners in FreeFrom Fish and Chip Shops and the Crème de la Crème categories.

Commemorating With Poppy Scotland
To mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One we had limited edition Real Food Café enamel pin badges made with a commemorative poppy incorporated into the name. The café sign also had a makeover for the occasion.
We’ll be collecting money in the café in donation canisters and for our limited edition badges, with 100% of donations going to Poppy Scotland.

Real Food Cafe shortlisted in the FreeFrom Eating Out Awards again!
We’ve been shortlisted in the FreeFrom Eating Out Awards, sponsored by Middleton Foods, for the second year running!
Last year we won a Gold Award in the Fish and Chip category, and we’re up for the same award this year as well as being in the Crème de la Crème category for our Gluten Free menu.

No tricks here at The Real Food Cafe!
We closed October with a real treat, with a visit from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. We were honoured to welcome local Station Manager Jim Differ to the café, where he presented us with a plaque in recognition of our support for the local community fire station.

Sarah Heward is the woman who made a million from fish and chips; and this week her achievement has been celebrated at the inaugural Amazing Women Awards in London.

We've been graded ‘A’ by Coeliac UK...again!
October has only started and already we have more good news! The team have achieved an A Grade certification from Coeliac UK for the fourth year running. We’re incredibly proud of all the teams’ efforts, but particularly of Colin and Mirela who assisted Coeliac UK’s auditors.

Best Eating Experience Central, Fife & Tayside
The cafe team are celebrating once again as we reach the regional finals of the Scottish Thistle Awards! We’ve been named as a finalist for the Best Eating Experience in the Central, Fife & Tayside region.
The Scottish Thistle Awards are arranged by VisitScotland along with a number of food and tourism associations across the country, and find the best tourism businesses in five regions in Scotland which then go on to the national finals. For over 20 years the Scottish Thistle Awards has been recognising Scotland’s tourism talent in what is the Oscar’s for the industry, and we couldn’t be prouder to be involved.
